Marlborough, Massachusetts
Arriving in Marlborough, Massachusetts in September of 2007 was bitter-sweet. I was happy to be out of the hustle and expense of New York and here with my best friend and her fiancé but now I had to start over. What was next? I hadn’t a clue and when I found out about the suicide of my friend, it made “un-slumping” myself all the more difficult. My mood was reflected in the work I created starting with the pen and ink series of dead trees called Stumped. I tended to focus the unkempt, the neglected and the blurred water reflections. In keeping with the dark mood, I did a series of experimental prints of night scenes, like the one on the right.
My stint in Massachusetts lasted only about eight months when my friend was offered a job in Arizona. She asked if I wanted to go along and I said, “Sure, I’ve never been to the west coast, let’s go.” It was time to get out of my slump – it was time for a new start.
